A bill sponsored by Boone County representative, Tim Harlan would force agents for student athletes to register with the Secretary of State.

The measure also requires both the agents and students who sign contracts with professional sports teams to notify M-U.

Athletes that have lost eligibility must not continue to play.

Penalties against the university for such a violation are stiff.

Harlan says his bill also forces agents to warn students about eligibility status as part of the contract signing process.

It's now up to Governor Carnahan to make the bill law.
