Neither Party Takes Challenge to Governor's Re-election Seriously

Governor Carnahan's campaign says it isn't worried about a lawsuit that challenges the constitutionality of his re-election bid. Kimberly Lohman reports from Jefferson City.

The Missouri constitution prohibits any person from serving as governor or treasurer more than twice. Carnahan was the state's Treasurer sixteen years ago . . . now he is running for re-election. A lawsuit filed with the state supreme court seeks clarification about whether Carnahan can run again. Mark Farinella, spokesman for Carnahan's re-election campaign . . .

Contents: Farinella says the suit doesn't have a importance or meaning and thinks the argument is pretty strange.

The Republican party is not taking the claim seriously either. Daryl Dewey, GOP state communications director, says his party has no plans to challenge the governor on constitutional grounds. Dewey says they'll take their best shot at beating Carnahan straight.
