Doctors Confront Legislators

Advocating tougher regulation of HMOs in the face of formidable opposition, nearly two hundred doctors are meeting face to face with legislators in Jefferson City. From the Capitol, Kimberly Lohman (low-man) has this report.

For the past couple of years, efforts for stronger health insurance regulation were quashed by heavy lobbying by the insurance industry.

In spite of the opposition, doctors are pushing for a health insurance bill which died in committee last year.

Dr. Charles Noland, a member of the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society, says that getting a fair hearing isn't easy.

Contents: Unfortunately we had to present it to the insurance committee on the House side and they are mostly insurance men and the lobbyists that are the legislators. So that is a harder sell.
