The Missouri House has voted against accepting a bill that would let lawmakers get rid of the St. Louis Special School Board and start over with a whole new board.

Debate focused on the issue of government stepping in and taking power away from a group elected by the public.

Representative Gary Witt says it's not right to remove elected officials from office without giving them a chance to defend themselves.

Contents: Witt says it's wrong to kick elected people out of office and get rid of them without first considering individual performance. He says it's not write to judge a board based on past history.

This issue is not dead.

Representatives have sent the bill back to a House and Senate committee to work out another compromise on the St. Louis Special Schools bill.
