English as Missouri's official language?

Monday night Missouri law makers were told why the state should not have an official language.

A number of people voiced their opposition to a house bill that would make English the official state language.

Zuleyma Tang-Martinez, a St.Louis professor, says the bill is unnecessary.

Contents: She says our ancestors learned how to speak English, she learned how to speak English, and immigrants today know they have to learn to speak English. The bill is unnecessary.

Bill sponsor Estel Robirds says making English the official language would help with record keeping and school policy in the future.

For now, the bill is pending before the house committee.
