Debate in the House centered on a bill that would establish a non-profit organization to provide health insurance for children.

The House defeated an amendment that tried to create a checks and balance system by putting the organization under the department of insurance.

Another amendment came before the House that would have prevented schools from providing the insurance.

Amendment sponsor Pat Kelley said schools should not be involved.

The House defeated the amendment but the measure setting up a children's health insurance company is still up for consideration.
