The Missouri legislature is another step closer to approving the growth of industrial hemp. Susan Batt has the story.

Both houses of the Missouri legislature are considering whether or not to legalize the production of industrial hemp - a less potent form of marijuana. Monday night the House Agri-Business committee narrowly approved the house bill.

Chair of the committee Marylin Williams supports the bill and points out that it moves ahead cautiously. The state must gain approval from the Drug Enforcement Administration before anybody could start growing the hemp.

Opponants of the bill say legalizing industrial hemp makes it harder to enforce illegal marijuana laws.
