Should Missouri doctors have the right to decide if mothers carrying terminally ill fetuses have partial birth abortions?

The House Committee on Criminal Law heard testimony for and against a bill to ban partial birth abortions.

Proponents say partial birth abortions can cause mothers serious harm, like infection of the cervix, premature deliveries and tearing of the uterus.

Representative Rich Chrismer, who introduced the bill, says partial birth abortions are lethal acts and is confident will be banned in Missouri.

Contents: "I will guarentee you if this gets to the floor, this will have overwhelming support...if it gets to the senate, it will have overwhelming support...the only way that this bill will be stopped is by the governor's veto."

Opponents say partial birth abortion decisions should be left up to the doctor and mother.
