The St. Louis City School Board Members came out to defend their reputation at a state House Education Committee hearing of the Senate's desegregation bill. Tristin Yeager reports from the state capitol.
The members testified against the bill but made clear they were not against the entire bill.
At the heart of their concerns is the measure that would allow the governor to appoint a three member board of governance to take control away from the school board.
Board member Madye Whitehead defended her board to the committee.
Governor Carnahan said last week that he was in favor of the board of governance measure and that the St. Louis City School Board, due to their poor performance, was simply asking for it.
