Apple for State Fruit?

April 14, 1999

Missouri has a state tree, a state rock, a state fish - - even a state fossil - - but no state fruit - - at least not yet.

Kurt Silver has the story from Jefferson City.

Students from Perryville came to the state capitol today to say Missouri is ripe for a state fruit.

Bill sponsor Representative Patrick Naeger says the apple is a logical choice.

Actuality:REP. PATRICK NAEGER
RunTime: 11SX
OutCue: "TO ENJOY THE APPLE"
Contents: THE APPLE HAS MANY USES AND IS A GREAT CHOICE FOR STATE FRUIT.

The House approved the bill by more than a 2 - 1 margin last week and it now faces the Senate.

If the apple becomes the state fruit - - one question will remain - - can a state vegetable be far off?
