Telemarketing firms would face tougher guidelines under a bill given preliminary approval by the House today/Tuesday. Princess Reyes has this story from Jefferson City:

Representative D.J. Davis of Odessa says he wants to target the small percentage of businesses that commit telemarketing fraud and take advantage of consumers, especially senior citizens.

However, his bill would place restrictions on all telemarketing companies.

Contents: He says that all companies must pull together to fix this problem in order to help those who cannot protect themselves from having fraud happen to them.

Davis says businesses are not opposed to his bill. They just don't like the tougher guidelines.

A spokesman for Sprint says the bill would create unfair competition.
