Rain Too Little Too Late

Missouri farm authorities say more rain is needed to help undo the damage done by this year's drought.

State Statistician Hubert Hamer says corn and soybeans--the hardest hit by the drought--will not benefit much from this week's rain.

Contents: Missouri State Statistician Huber Hamer says late soybeans may benefit a little but primarily the rain will help fall pasture growth, winter wheat seedings, and restore stock ponds.

At the state's request the federal government is considering declaring a disaster due to drought in Missouri. Governor Carnahan's office says the rain is not expected to effect the decision.
