Idea of prescription drug help for the elderly coming closer and closer to reality.

Elderly in Missorui are one step closer to receiving help with their prescription drug costs. Chris DuPree has more from Jefferson City.

STORY

A compromise reached in the Senate breathes new life into creating a prescription drug progam for the elderly of Missouri.

The Republican-Controlled Senate Health Committee approved a bill that is a compromise of the Senate bills that were proposed and the recommendations of the prescription drug task force and its democratic chariman, Lt. Governor Joe Maxwell.

A difference pointed out by Lt. Governor Maxwell was that the compromised bill did not include details about Medicaid provisions which are included in the task-force's recommendations.

But the Senate committee declared that Medicaid provisions of the bill will be introduced as an amendment on the Senate floor.

The result is a beginning for the legislature in addressing prescription drug needs and a victory for the elderly to get the adequte help that they need.
