Most supporters say a birth certificate is important for medical reasons, not just to find out who the birth parents were.

One adoptee testified that even after knowing who her parents were, she was missing vital information.

OutCue: "gave birth to me"
Contents: After finding my birth mother I realized I was still missing something, an original birth certificate. I have an amended one, one that omits important details like my weight, my size, and the truth - that my birth mother gave birth to me.

Some legislators worry giving adoptees that information would violate the privacy of birth parents.
