Missouri joins suit against EchoStar and Hughes

Missouri is joining the U.S. Department of Justice in a federal lawsuit to stop the merging of two national direct broadcast satellite providers, EchoStar and Hughes.

Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon spokesman, Scott Holste, says the merging of the only two national broadcast satellite providers in the country would eliminate competition.

According to Holste the elimination of competition hurts consumers, by increasing prices, lowering service quality, and reducing program options.

A group of twenty three states, the district of Columbia, and Puerto Rico have also joined in the suit against EchoStar and Hughes.
