Governor Holden says he will veto the education budgets

For the second time, Governor Holden vetoed the education and higher education budgets and asked lawmakers to reconsider new taxes:

The Governor has requested that the legislature pass a 90-day budget for edcuation, then come back into another special session in September to consider new way to increase school funding.

Holden says if lawmakers do not find new sources of revenue, he will be forced to withhold more than $200 million dollars from state funded schools.

Holden accused lawmakers of failing to do their jobs:

The Republican-led legislature maintains that the budget is balanced.

House speaker Catherine Hanaway says the Governor is playing political games and urged him to sign the budget.
