That was Sen. Green of St. Louis County defending himself in the Missouri Senate Wednesday over his inquiry into alternate ways of spending money allocated for Vietnam veterans medallions.

The defense comes after a letter was sent by Rep. Michael McGhee from Odessa to newspapers and veterans criticizing Green for not caring about Vietnam veterans.

Green read parts of the letter.

"What aggravated me the most was that paragraph that says 'perhaps the Senator from the 13th feels that since Vietnam vets have been kicked around, disrespected and abused so much in the past, one more time would not be that big of a deal to them.'"

Green's inquiries into alternate spending of the money included increasing beds in veteran's hospitals.

McGhee's office says since the defensive remarks Wednesday, McGhee and Green have been coordinating on veteran's issues.
