Jim Mauze was appointed to the loan agency's board of directors in late October by the governor but has not yet been confirmed by the Senate. Usually a nominee needs to be supported by their district senator to get confirmation, but Sen. Joan Bray of St. Louis County, has not yet decided whether to support her constituent.

Senator John Loudon, a member of the gubernatorial appointments committee, said a senator's sponsorship is crucial.

Mauze has been serving as an interim member because his appointment was made before the legislature was in session. Mauze has until February 4 to be confirmed by the Senate or he will lose his position. From the state capitol, I am Kathryn Buschman.
