Date: September 27, 2007
By: Fanna Haile-Selassie
State Capitol Bureau

Intro: Democratic lawmaker calls the Missouri Speaker of the House's last minute actions disheartening. Fanna (FAWNA) Haile-Selassie (HIGH-lay-sel-LAH-say) spoke with the lawmaker. RunTime:

Democratic representative Paul LeVota spoke out against the last minute action addition into a senate bill.

The bill would allow landowners to petition to remove their land from county jurisdiction, essentially by calling the land a "village".

Representative Dennis Wood Monday said it was the Speaker of the House Rod Jetton who made the addition.

Currently, Jetton has made no comment or clarification and Representative LeVota is waiting for Jetton's comment.

Actuality:  LEVOTA1.WAV
Run Time: 00:20
Description: I don't even really want to speculate on why they're not talking. I think that it's important that we discuss with the people of Missouri what's in every bill, why we've added things to bills. And I'm sure the speaker will see that and clarify his position at some point. Hopefully sooner than later.

The sponsors of the bill did not comment on the subject.
