The Missouri House gave preliminary approval to a plan that eliminates gas taxes for the entire summer.

Gas payers would have to apply for the tax return while also keeping their receipts over a three month period to prove their gas expenditures.

Saint Louis County Democratic Representative Patricia Yaeger says this will not be an effective incentive for Missouri drivers.

Description: I know this sounds like we're helping the people and I believe it will, but unfortunately I don't know how many people are going to be disciplined enough to hang onto their receipts for three months.

If passed, the gas reimbursement period would take place from May 24 until September 2.

But with a couple of weeks left in the legislative session the measure faces a long hall to ever get to the governor's desk.
