The current law is forcing a payroll boost in private businesses.

The new law would repeal automatic minimum wage increases and business owners like Greg Hunsucker from Independence have a problem with how the current system affects restaurant servers.

Actuality:  MINWAGE8.WAV
Run Time: 00:09
Description: "Not only do they get an increase in their wage but now they get an increase in their tips because of the price increase to cover the wage...it is compounding and it's ridiculous."

Hunsucker added the governor was incorrect to overrule the law.

The Senate Business Committee was urged to repeal the automatic increase in minimum wage.

Instead, Senator Loudon is proposing a fix to the issue by aligning state and federal wages.

Actuality:  MINWAGE7.WAV
Run Time: 00:09
Description: "This bill says that once we're in line with the Feds we will stay in line with the Feds. We will continue to index for inflation but we'll stay in line with the Feds."

He also assured the alignment would not put Missouri in a competitive disadvantage.

The bill would go into affect in 2010.
