The MoHELA bill will give Forty-six million dollars in funding for cancer research centers on University of Missouri campus medical centers in Columbia and Kansas City.

Senate Democrats were told last year after the funds for the cancer centers were cut that they would be appropriated so long as the Democrats ended their lenghthy protest of the MoHELA bill.

Farmington Republican Kevin Engler was unhappy with the passage of the bill by Senate Democrats.

Description: "If you tell somebody you're going to do something, that you're going to take the money away, it should be taken away.  All we asked them to do was vote 'no' and take the dough."

Engler was one of three dissenting voters on the bill.

A bill that will provide $46 million in funding for cancer research centers in Columbia and Kansas City was approved Monday.

Democrat Chuck Graham of Columbia expressed pleasure with the bill's passage, which provides two-thirds of the funding to the Ellis Fischel Center in Columbia.

Actuality:  CGRAHAM1.WAV
Run Time: 00:13
Description: "Well, obviously we're very pleased to be able to get thirty-one million dollars for Ellis Fischel Cancer Hospital and to have that approved without any restrictions on research."

Senator Graham was one of two Democrats who last year debated the bill at length after funding for the medical centers was removed.
