A bill that would legalize midwifery has been delayed as liability issues come to the forefront.

The Majority floor leader Charlie Shields contends the bill would put hospitals at a greater risk of being sued.

Actuality:  MELDS.WAVE
Run Time: 00:17
Description: Again, something bad happens. You have a child that is damaged for life. Somebody's got to figure out how to financially take care of that child the rest of their life. And who are they going to turn to? They're going to turn to the EMT, they're going to turn to the paramedic, they're going to turn to the nurses, they're going to turn to the doctors, they're going to turn to the hospitals, and that's who's going to get sued.

Shields postponed his amendment that would provide more protection for the hospital industry. Shields also works St. Joseph hospital.
