St. Louis-based preneed funeral corporation, National Prearranged Services Inc., or N.P.S., has insufficient funds to provide funerals for more than 55,000 customers.

Missouri Insurance Guaranty Association Director Charles Renn addressed the Senate Joint Committee on Preneed Funeral Contracts Tuesday.  He said he is less than shocked with N.P.S.

Actuality:  RENN2.WAV
Run Time: 00:11
Description: As I've become educated on preneed funeral business, looked at the law, looked at how N.P.S. did what they were able to do; what amazed me is that this has not happened before to a greater extent.

Renn also said the otherwise clean record of preneed sales companies says a lot about the quality of people in the preneed business.
