Various state government offices look to the State Treasurer's Office for policies to keep their investments safe.

State Treasurer Sarah Steelman says some state agencies have safeguards in place but more knowledge doesn't hurt.

Actuality:  STEEL2.WAV
Run Time: 00:13
Description: Some of them might have those kind of things in place already, but we were getting enough phone calls that we thought it might be helpful to public entities to go through those kind of investment policies that we've put in place that have ensured the protection of tax-payer money.

Steelman's policy avoids many types of investments in insurance companies, brokerage firms, and banks.

The first workshop is for the Missouri Association of School Administrators on October 7.
