The Missouri House passed legislation which would let voters decide on who becomes a St. Louis County assessor.

Representative Mike Sutherland said the new election process will keep assessors in check.

Description: "As people are elected, there is no doubt that they are more accountable to the people. All of us are accountable to the people because they are the people who are our boss."

The measure passed the House, but opponents voiced concern about giving a vote to the entire state that only effects St. Louis County.

An election in November would determine whether the system gets changed.
