More than two months ago, Assistant Senate Majority Leader Gary Nodler announced he was interested in running for Blunt's vacated congressional seat.

Nodler has yet to make an official decision on whether or not he will run because he says his priorities lie with his duties as the Senate Appropriations Committee Chair.

Run Time: 00:13
Description: I think that a candidacy for congress would be a complication to the budget process for sure, not helpful. That's certainly a reason not to make such an announcement now.

Nodler says he will stand by his previous decision to make an official announcement once the 2009 Legislative session ends.

Fellow Senator, Southwest Republican Jack Goodman announced his candidacy in February, and Nodler says they share similar positions on several issues.

Although Nodler is waiting, he admits he is still interested in pursuing the congressional seat.

Actuality:  NODLER2.WAV
Run Time: 00:13
Description: I'd say it's even likely that I'll become a candidate, but that is a decision to be made at a later date.

The 2009 Legislative session comes to an end May 15, and until then Nodler is certain to remain silent.

Reporting from the State Capitol I'm Abigail Grimmett...KSMU.
