Governor Nixon's Policy Director Jeff Harris said one of the best ways to spend Missouri's stimulus funds is in long term investments like job training.

Committee Chairman Republican Scott Rupp (ROOP) says he wants focus the money on one-time purchases.

Description: "What one-time expenses do we have that we could use this one-time money to use? Rather than just say hey here's an agency, spend it on ongoing programs, and then in two years we have to continue making those payments. So we're trying to identify one-time payments for one-time money."

The committee will work with governor on how to spend the money.

Governor Nixon has also set up a website for Missourians to chime in on what to do with the stimulus funds.

Senators on the committee for the federal stimulus heard from the governor's policy director, Jeff Harris, about where the state's top executive is thinking of spending Missouri's dollars. Harris lacked specifics as final decisions haven't been made, but did say Governor Nixon is looking for guidance.
Actuality:  HARRIS1.WAV
Run Time: 00:08
Description: "We intend to work in collaboration with the general assembly, we're open to ideas as to how you believe the money should be spent."

Harris responded to the committees inquiries with the promise to be open to suggestions, but no definite decisions were made on the spending.
