Actuality:  BSCHP2.WAV
Run Time:  00:03
Description: "You don't think scholarships are critical? Uh, they are not life and death."

Sponsor of the bill taking nearly $400,000 from the Marguerite Ross Barnett Scholarship is Rep. David Sater, who says the money should come from private investors rather than general revenue.

The scholarship supports students who take six to 11 credit hours and work 20 or more hours.

Freshman Rep. Genise Montecillo says money shouldn't be taken away because there are no other scholarships like it.

Actuality:  MTCLLO1.WAV
Run Time:  00:06
Description: "I know most scholarships are linked to full time attendance and if you are only attending six hours that's not a full time attendance, so that would be my concern."

The amendment was defeated by a voice vote.

Wrap: The Budget Appropriations Committee finalized the 2012 budget within one hour.

Democratic Rep. Chris Kelly says the mark-up session last year took almost three days.

The Committee heard a total of 18 amendments, which was nearly 300 less than the previous year.

Kelly says not only the number shortened the process, but also the bipartisan effort led by Republican Chairman Ryan Silvey.

Description: "As you saw it whether an amendment was democratic or republican didn't matter. Some democratic amendments failed some passed, some republican amendments failed and some passed. Everyone thought they got a fair shake and that's what's most important."
