Wrap: Representative Joe Aull says he will propose a bill to help Missouri school districts that have missed more days than usual this winter.

Aull says school districts are torn between the desire to keep students in school and the need to limit the number of days they add to their calenders.

Actuality:  AULL.WAV
Run Time:  00:08
Description: "I think excusing schools from days they missed during that week of extremely bad emergency type weather, I think that would be a good compromise."

Aull says state law can require schools to make up a maximum of ten days. However, the days in question would not be part of the count.

Wrap: Representative Joe Aull says he will introduce a bill that would excuse Missouri schools from having to make up days missed during the week of January 31.

Aull says schools should not have to make up these days because Governor Nixon had declared that week a state of emergency.

Actuality:  AULL2.WAV
Run Time:  00:06
Description: "By excusing those days, that's going to give schools a little bit of relief, yet most schools are still going to have to go back and make up some days."

Aull, a former school administrator, says this bill would help school districts struggling to meet state requirements and the needs of their students.

Wrap: Democratic Representative Joe Aull says he plans to propose a bill that would exempt Missouri schools from having to make up snow days during the blizzard.

Republican Representative Rick Stream says similar bills have been considered in previous years.

Actuality:  STREAM.WAV
Run Time:  00:11
Description: "I do think it's a legitimate concern. In the past, in the last couple of years, we have authorized the state to grant some leniency on making up snow days."

Stream says a case will have to be made that this bill is what schools really need.

He says he expects the bill will have a fair chance of passing.
