Wrap: MoDOT wants to make I-70 a toll road to improve the infrastructure of one of Missouri's busiest and oldest roads.

In front of the Joint Committee of Transportation Oversight, MoDOT Director Kevin Keith said I-70 needs to be repaired.

Run Time:  00:06
Description: "If we do nothing, in 10 or 15 years from now I-70 is a graveled parking lot."

MoDOT's three different options for self-funded toll projects range in cost from two to four billion dollars.

And to make up those costs, motorists could pay 10 to 15 cents a mile.

That means a car traveling from St. Louis to Kansas City could be charged as much as 30 dollars.

As of the testimonies, no formal bill had been filed.

Wrap: Interstate 70 is 60 years old and is in need of a major face lift.

In front of the Joint Committee of Transportation Oversight, MoDOT Director Kevin Keith said making I-70 a toll road would be the best way to fund improvements on I-70.

And if the self-funded toll project is approved, Keith says the only way to make this project work is to move fast.

Run Time:  00:06
Description: "What we're talking about is somewhere between 6 and 8 years from today, I-70 is done. And you are driving on it."

Keith added the projects could create anywhere between 6 to 12 thousand jobs per year depending on its complexity.

As of the testimonies, no formal bill had been filed to make this project happen.
