The legislation will establish a pilot program to bus children to correctional facilities in Chillicothe and Vandalia to see their mothers once a month.

A goal of the program is to prevent mothers from going back to prison by helping them develop a relationship with her children.

The director of Patch Program, which allows incarcerated mothers to see their children, Barb Burton says it's important for children to have a connection with their mothers.

Wrap: A house bill before House Urban Issues committee will establish a program to bus kids to correctional facilities to see their mothers behind bars.

Democrat Representative Penny Hubbard says the cost may actually be less than the expected fiscal note.

The program aims to prevent mothers from going back to prison which would ultimately decrease the amount of money spent to keep inmates incarcerated.
