Stan Musial Bridge caught in political run down

Date: April 23, 2013
By: Brendan Cullerton
State Capitol Bureau
Links: HB 303, HB 304

Intro:
A plan to honor Stan "the man" Musial got pushed back Tuesday night after a St. Louis Senator put the late Cardinals slugger in a political rundown.
RunTime:  0:41
OutCue:  SOC

Wrap: Efforts name the I-70 bridge linking Illinois and Missouri after Stan "the man" have not gone as smoothly as the late Cardinals slugger's swing once did.

St. Louis Senator Maria Chappelle Nadal amended a portion of the bill that names a different bridge after former Missouri Congressman William Clay.

Chappelle Nadal says the addition of Sr. to the bridge name is important to reinforce that the bridge honors the former congressman, and not his son, Lacy Clay.

Actuality:  CHAP2.WAV
Run Time:  00:07
Description: "I don't think the current Senator, or the Congressman deserves to have a bridge named after him. I think his father does."

Because of the ammendment, the bill now goes back to the House.

Reporting from the state Capitol, I'm Brendan Cullerton.
