Feds Home But State Working
November 14, 1995 By: Shalini Bhatnagar State Capital Bureau
Most Missouri government employees have been able to laugh at the federal government shut-down today that's cost many federal workers in the state their jobs.
Shalini Bhatnagar reports from the State Capitol:
Most of Missouri's STATE agencies say the federal shutdown is not affecting their operations.
One of biggest impacts was on the state Labor Department which gets most of it's money from the feds.
The state agency had to lay off ten workers and close its St. Louis office.
The department continues to process unemployment checks.
But state Labor Department Director Sandra Moore says that could change if the federal shutdown continues into next month:
Moore says her department has enough money from the feds to fund labor programs until mid-January.
