Missouri legislators are a step closer to increasing state speeding limits. Kelly Just has the story.

Following debate in the House, Representatives have given the nod to a bill raising Missouri speed limits. The measure would allow drivers to travel 70 miles an hour on rural interstates and 65 on divided four lane highways.

Members did however decide to keep two lane highways at 55 miles an hour, after concerns were raised about road conditions. Bill sponsor, Larry Thomason says the ammendment wasn't any big compromise.

Contents: "It was always our intent and the highway department of public safety's intent that the vast majority of two-lane highways in the state would stay at 55, but the way it was structured in the bill, it was unclear what the intent was"
The speed bill faces one more House vote before going to the Senate where similar legislation has stalled.
