Senate Democrats Disagree on a Prescription Drug Tax Credit for the Elderly

For the second time this session the Missouri state Senate floundered on tax credit bill. Lori Prichard reports from the State Capital.

Senate democrats are arguing over how far a prescription drug tax credit will go to help the elderly. The original bill would provide a drug refund of approximatley $51 to 243,000 members of the state's elderly. But, Mexico Democrat Joe Maxwell proposes a bigger tax break for fewer elderly.

Contents: Senator Maxwell would rather help those truly in need rather than skim the surface.

Senator Maxwell's plan would double the cost to Missouri taxpayers from $20 million to $40 million. Because of Maxwell's objections, the bill's sponsor put the proposal aside for the time being.
