Missouri Lacks Building Codes

Criticisms of officials in the aftermath of the earthquake in Turkey can also be made in Missouri. Aaron Cummins has that story from Jefferson City--

Thousands of deaths in Turkey are being blamed on a lack of building codes. Like Turkey, Missouri has no statewide building codes.

Repeatedly a bill that would allow all counties in Missouri to adopt and enforce building codes has failed in the Senate.

Kansas City Representative Bill Boucher says the bills faced opposition from rural Senators but he says that he isn't ready to give up.

Boucher says that the bill is likely to come up again in the January legislative session. From the state capitol, I'm Aaron Cummins.

Lack of building codes are being blamed for several thousand deaths in the Turkish earthquake and the same problem could affect Missouri. Aaron Cummins has that story from Jefferson City.

Even though parts of Missouri sit on the New Madrid fault line many counties are not allowed to adopt and enforce building codes.

Repeatedly a bill that would allow all counties to adopt building codes has failed in the Missouri legislature.

Kansas City Representative Bill Boucher says that there is reason for concern.

Despite the previous failures of the bill, Boucher expects it to be brought up again during the January legislative session.
