Workers comp bill goes to the House

The House Committee on Workforce Development and Workplace Safety looked at a bill to more narrowly define who qualifies for workers' compensation.

Sharon Delgaudio has more from the state capitol.

The House committee first discussed the changes the senate proposed and then began hearing witness testimony.

One change caught Representative Vogt's attention. Senator Loudon's attorney clarified the 50% penalty to the victim's compensation in the event of a positive drug test.

"Certainly there's no binding precedent for a commission decision. So that is actually up for some debate."

The Missouri Chamber of Commerce joined with some Missouri employers to express their support for the bill.

They said the provisions would require an impartial review of evidence that would ensure fairness.
