Certain bills face uphill battle

With only six weeks left in this year's legislative session, bills still sitting in committee or ones that haven't even been assigned yet face an uphill battle.

Andrea Ramey explains how that includes numerous bills dealing with illegal immigrants.

One bill in particular sponsored by Republican Senator Bill Alter would cut illegal immigrants off from taxpayer-funded public assistance and empower cops to detain them.

But it can't do either of those things yet because it's still sitting in a committee.

Contents: "Since it was introduced late in the session and there's only six weeks right now, we'll just have to put some pressure on getting it out of committee, and then it's going to line behind the others on the calendar and whether it gets moved up that's up to Senate leadership."

The Immigration and Naturalization Services say 22-thousand illegal immigrants were living in Missouri in 2000.
