Claire McCaskill said Tuesday the Department of Natural Resources has abused taxpayers' dollars.

State Auditor Claire McCaskill said in a press conference that the DNR has squaundered tax payer money at the district level.
Particularly in the district encompassing St. Louis City and County and St. Charles County, McCaskill says the audit found a lot of waste on art and books not directly related to solid waste management.
"That district is actually spending $6000 to paint a mural on a conference room wall in a building they are renting. Obviously that is something that the state auditor's office will always perk up about. I can't imagine a sillier use of money than painting a mural on a wall in a building the state doesn't even own."
Renee Bungart, a representative of the DNR says the department agrees with the report and sees it as an opportunity to improve fund management, especially in the area of solid waste.
