Blunt Announces Faith-Based Missouri

Intro: Governor Blunt Announced his new plan to help needy Missourians using help from faith-based groups.

The Governor announced a five person panel to study the relationship between secular and religious charities.

Two of the panel's members are from St. Louis and have been appointed to other positions previously by Governor Blunt.

He said that the bureaucracy in state government often makes religious charities a better alternative to those in need, but that the program's religious component is not the centerpiece of the plan.

Description: "Clearly, this is not about forcing anybody to go through some religious conversion.  Conversion my happen and no one should apologize for it, but it's not about making anyone have a religious conversion."


Director of Social Services Deborah Scott, said Faith-Based Missouri is unique because it will allow state funds to go religious groups in order to help Missourians.
