Presidential Hopefuls File for Super Tuesday Election

Intro: The race for the presidency is officially underway in Missouri as presidential hopefuls were allowed to register with the state.

Carly Robertson was at the filing site and has more.

Many state politicians represented presidential hopefuls at the Secretary of State's office today.

The office was the official filing site for candidates to register their name on the primary ballot.

Speaker of the House Rod Jetton represented Republican Governor Mitt Romney in filling his name.

Description: "The Governor couldn't be here today we prefer to have him here, Governor Romney, unfortunately he couldn't be here so they asked me if I would be willing to do it and I was like wow I would be honored to do it. It's not something I ever thought I would be doing."

All candidates are required to file paperwork and pay a fee to ensure Missourians have a chance to vote for them come February 5th.

Those that file on the first day participate in a random drawing that determines what order their name will appear on the ballot.

Missouri will join 19 other states on that day, commonly known as "Super Tuesday," in electing the presidential candidates.

Secretary of State Robin Carnahan opened her office for presidential hopefuls to file their candidacy in Missouri.

While no candidates made the trip to Missouri to file, many state politicians registered on their behalf.

Carnahan says the filing is a similar process to the one state officials go through.

Those candidates that file on the first day participate in a random drawing to determine where their

name will go on the ballot.

Missouri will share their primary day with 19 other states on February 5th, a day commonly referred to as "Super Tuesday."

Candidates will have a little less than one month to ensure their name will appear on the ballot.
