Wrap: St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and the president of the St. Louis Cardinals are asking the state to finance 17 million dollars to develop the area around Busch Stadium.

This is part of a $100 million dollar plan to develop the blighted area around Busch Stadium.

The Department of Economic Development says the city of St. Louis meets the requirements to apply for tax incentives from the state.

Republican Senator Jason Crowell says these stimulus plans aren't a good idea.

Description: "Missouri is the nationwide leader in job loss, while we're spending ever more dollars in what's nothing more than redistribution of wealth back to campaign contributors."

The Missouri Development Finance Board will decide the fate of Ballpark Village on September 18th.

Wrap: St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and the president of the St. Louis Cardinals are asking for both local and state tax incentives to finance the redevelopment of the blighted area around Busch Stadium.

These tax incentives would lay the way for building Ballpark Village.

President of the St. Louis Cardinals, Bill Dewitt says this first phase of incentives will get the area ready for later phases.

Description: "You've gotta clean up the site all around before you do anything. What we're planning in this phase to get all that utility streetwork ready for future development, which we think will happen much more quickly because of what we're doing."

If the Missouri Development Finance Board approves the tax incentives, the Cardinals plan to start construction this fall.
