Wrap: Calls to the Department of Social Services went unreturned, but an email from a department spokesperson said all questions had to go through the Office of Administration.

OA didn't answer any questions, but did give me 13 corrective action reports from the department stemming from the audit.

The department agreed with state auditor Tom Schweich's finding that daycares got paid nearly 300,000 dollars for kids that weren't there.

In the corrective action plans, the department says it is seeking help from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to find out what other states are doing to cut down on missing and insufficient documentation.

The Office of Administration didn't answer questions, but did give me 13 corrective action plans from the Department of Social Services.

State Auditor Tom Schweich reported the department misused more than 32 million dollars of federal funds for foster care, adoption assistance and guardianship costs. And another 24 million dollars on college scholarships.

The department disagreed with those findings and said in a corrective action plan the federal guidelines allowed the department to spend that money.
