Intro:
As questions heat up over allegations the state's Department of Revenue is giving information to the feds, one Democratic representative calls a bill aimed at ensuring Missourians' privacy rights "deceptive."
RunTime:  0:35
OutCue:  SOC

Wrap: The bill would require the Missouri Department of Revenue to stop collecting and get rid of copies of documents necessary for Missourians to get their licenses.

Republican bill sponsor Todd Richardson and Representative Jay Barnes spoke in support of the bill, claiming it would protect Missourians' privacy.

But Democratic Columbia Representative Chris Kelly says there's a bigger issue at stake, the department can already sell personal information to thousands.

Kelly said these claims deceive Missourians by saying this bill would solve the privacy issue.

Description: "the federal government could certainly just traipse in here and buy it!"

The bill needs another vote in the House before going to the Senate.

A Democratic State Representative says a bill aimed at protecting the privacy of Missourians getting their licenses doesn't do as much as the sponsor says.

Wrap: The bill would require the revenue department stop collecting and get rid of copies of documents necessary to get a license.

Democratic Columbia Representative Chris Kelly says bill sponsor Todd Richardson's claim it would do a lot to ensure privacy is deceptive.

Kelly said the department still can sell personal information to thousands of people, and he's been trying to pass legislation to stop the practice since 20-11.

Actuality:  KELLY33.WAV
Run Time:  00:12
Description: "you guys didn't want privacy then, you don't want privacy now, you should quit playing privacy. Either get it and stop playing the sale or quit tricking the people of Missouri."

Despite his concerns, Kelly voted in support of the bill.
