Intro:
St. Louis County Democratic Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal has been on the Senate floor since 2 p.m. reciting names of gun violence victims in a filibuster of an anti-gun control measure.
RunTime:  0:45
OutCue:  SOC

Wrap: The bill would put before voters an amendment to the constitution that would prevent lawmakers from supporting any measure restricting gun ownership.

Chappelle-Nadal says she supports the measure, but started to filibuster after lawmakers shot down an amendment she offered. She says her amendment would have made it more balanced to her inner-city constituents by clarifying the active role of law enforcement officers.

Chappelle-Nadal says Republicans only wanted to pass the bill to protest gun control measures supported by President Barack Obama.

Description: "I just certainly hope that just because they are angry at an individual we aren't passing legislation to display that anger, thats not what we're here for."

Intro:
Following a week long spring break, Democratic Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal began filibustering an anti-gun control measure a little after 2 p.m., and is receiving a little help from her colleagues to keep it from a vote.
RunTime:  0:43
OutCue:  SOC

Wrap: The bill would put before voters an amendment to the constitution that Republican Senator Kurt Schaefer says would clarify to Missouri lawmakers their duty to protect 2nd amendment gun rights.

Chapelle-Nadal tried to introduce an amendment that she says would have clarified the language for her inner-city district, but it was rejected by Schaefer and other Senate Republicans.

Actuality:  NADAL55.WAV
Run Time:  00:14
Description: "His perspective is more rural, my perspective is more urban where we have a lot of violence and a lot of kids getting involved in criminal activity, and I don't want them to think that's okay."

Chapelle-Nadal used her filibuster to read off the names of gun violence victims.
