Wrap: Republican Senator Bill Eigel's measure would also allow Missouri to collect more sales tax from online shopping, cap all state tax credits and repeal business savings for timely tax payments.

Missouri already reduced income taxes for the wealthiest citizens over five years. The income tax will drop slightly in twenty-eighteen because state revenues met their goal of a large increase.

Eigel's bill would have the highest income tax bracket pay four-point-eight percent, even lower than the current decreases. His plan would lower taxes by a tenth of a percent each year until the income tax is abolished.

The bill would also raise gas taxes by six cents, to twenty-three cents a gallon.

Wrap: A task force created by Governor Eric Greitens called for capping all tax credits, checking that credits fulfill their stated purpose and letting executive officers end ineffective credits.

A proposal by Republican Representative Dan Stacy would add a two tofour year expiration date on the tax credits, which may be reapproved by the General Assembly. A tax credit is a discount for doing something the government wants to incentivize.

In contract, a proposal by St. Louis County Representative Doug Beck would provide a tax credit to assist 'food deserts.' The bill would give a credit to grocery stores built in poor areas without a store nearby.
