Running a red light may be tougher for drivers

February 9, 1999

Running a red light may face more penalties, if a bill presented to the senate today/Tuesday, passes. Princess Reyes has this story from Jefferson City:

Drivers may want to think twice before running a red light. If a bill under consideration in the Senate passes, cities would be able to install an automated photo-traffic enforcement program. This system would photograph the license plate of any car that fails to stop at a major intersection.

Sen. Betty Sims of St. Louis County, the sponsor of this bill, says this will help prevent overspeeding at intersections.

Contents: Sims says this will help law enforcement agencies to catch the drivers who fail to stop.

Sims says that this bill would help deter injuries and accidents that would have been caused by drivers who try to run the red light.

No opposition was present at the hearing.
