Tobacco Compromise Rejected

Anti-abortion forces have rejected the governor's effort for a compromise on the tobacco settlement funds. Phill Brooks has the story from Jefferson City:

The governor offered to sign a measure that banned use of the tobacco settlement money for assisting abortions.

But as for one of the principle targets of the anti-abortion forces, the governor expressed down-right confusion as to whether his compromise would allow funds to Planned Parenthood:

The governor might be confused, but abortion opponents are clear...that any tobacco legislation must include a ban on the money going to groups like Planned Parenthood.

And in the Senate, they showed they've got the votes to block tobacco settlement money going to Planned Parenthood.
