A bill sponsored by Senator John Russell would give schools $80 for every student that completes a driver's education course.

Russell says the state should encourage schools to have the class.

Contents: Russell says the skill of driving is one of the few that students use their entire life.

Russell says the bill wouldn't require schools to have the class, but would provide an incentive to offer it.

There are currently about 60,000 high school sophomores in Missouri.

That means the program would cost the state about $5 million a year if it passes.
